Walk MS: Long Island presented by Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology

Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Jones Beach, Field 5 and Belmont Lake State Park. The Pooch Parade will ONLY take place at Belmont Lake State Park. No pets are allowed at Jones Beach.

****CHANGE IN PARKING FEE: Please be advised that the New York State Parks Department will be collecting an $8.00 parking fee upon entry to the Parks. *Fee is subject to change.*****

Orange is the color of Walk MS. Please wear orange so that there will be no mistaking the mission we are supporting: a world free of multiple sclerosis.

Walk MS Mileage: Jones Beach, Field 5 is 3.8 miles; Belmont Lake State Park is 1.5 miles.

Important Information

  • No pets are allowed at Jones Beach. Pooch Parade will take place at Belmont Lake State Park only.
  • Walk MS will take place rain or shine. Please dress accordingly.
  • Due to the kindness of local businesses, light refreshments will be available at the Finish Line. Water will be available at the rest stop. It is recommended that you eat breakfast prior to the event as meals will not be provided.
  • All registered participants who raise $125.00 each will receive the official Walk MS t-shirt at the registration/check-in tent. *One per person, while supplies last.

  • Hair extensions will be available for only $10.00 each ($15.00 value). All colors and patterns will be available. $5.00 of each extension will be donated to the Long Island Chapter's- Walk MS.   • Visit the MS Activism Tent to meet members of the Long Island Chapter's Government Relations Committee to learn more about how you can get involved in the Society's advocacy efforts.
  • Get your National MS Society gear at the Tent of Hope/MS Store
  • Belmont Lake State Park: Visit the fun, interactive and hands-on live animal show presented by Petland Discounts.   
  • Jones Beach: Music provided by cover band, RVO! Have a sweet tooth? Visit the Candy for a Cure tent. A donation of $5.00 will get you a bag filled with your favorite candy.  

Driving Directions to Jones Beach, Field 5

  • Wantagh Parkway will be closed from Southern State Parkway to Sunrise Highway.
  • From Meadowbrook Parkway:
    Meadowbrook Parkway South pass through the tollbooths and proceed towards the Jones Beach needle. Bear right onto Bay Drive (Sign will say Jones Beach Theater). Make the first left and follow the signs for Parking Field 5 (drive towards the Jones Beach Theater). Make the second right into Parking Field 5.
  • From Wantagh Parkway:
    (Open South of Merrick Road) Enter Parkway South of Sunrise Highway via Merrick Road. Proceed South. Pass through the toll booths. Follow signs for Parking Field 5. (Jones Beach Theater)

Driving Directions to the Belmont Lake State Park Walk MS Site

  • Southern State parkway to Exit 38. This exit takes you directly into the park. Parking is just past the tollbooth. Follow signs to registrations.
  • Pooch Parade (Belmont Lake State Park ONLY) registration begins at 10:00 a.m. and walk begins at 10:30 a.m.

How donations from saving paper and printing are used:
$15 will pay for a member to attend a counseling series
$25 will fund for a member to attend a social program, such as Family Fun Night
$50 will pay for round trip ambullete transportation
$500 provides assistance to help pay for a wheelchair, scooter or other piece of essential Durable Medical Equipment
$1,000 provides a ten week session of a wellness program for up to 25 members
$5,000 provides funds to assist/pay for a ramp for an individual with MS
$45,000 funds an innovative research grant that will help take us one step closer toward a world free of MS.
